Why I left new construction for houses people live in
I started out insulating new houses for builders, where every wall and ceiling is open and nobody has moved in yet. After a few years I wanted to work on homes people actually live in, so in 2013 I started this business in Pasadena. Most of our calls are about a hot upstairs, a drafty older house or old insulation in the attic that nobody's sure about, and Pasadena has a lot of older houses.
In a lived-in house, what matters most to me is doing things in the right order. Insulation laid over a roof leak, an open gap or old wiring just hides the problem, so I'd rather find it first and tell you plainly what's up there. What you can count on when we work on your house
We look before we quote
I go through your attic or crawl space before I give you a number, so old wiring, a roof leak or questionable insulation turns up now instead of halfway through the job. If an electrician or an asbestos specialist should go first, I'll tell you plainly and we'll plan our work around theirs.
Air leaks get sealed before insulation goes in
We start with air sealing, closing the gaps around lights, pipes and the attic hatch, and only then add insulation, because insulation fighting a draft can't do the job you're paying for. If your job needs a permit, we find out whether the city or the county covers your address and handle the permit and the inspection.
One contact from the first visit to the last
The person who looks at your attic is the person you call until the job is done, and our own trained crew, licensed and fully insured, does the work. We moved to lived-in homes on purpose, so working around furniture, pets and kids is normal for us.
